Tutor Resources
The Resources section is divided into subsections that include information for volunteer tutors on Educational Websites, Tutor Training Materials, and Advanced Training Topics.
Educational Websites is divided into three pages
Elementary School Students
Middle School Students
High School Students
Please note that some of the websites listed may be identified with a particular grade level, but will include information for a wider range of grade levels. For example, the link to Dolch words (200 words every elementary student needs to know) is listed under Kindergarten, but actually includes Dolch words for K through Grade 3 students.
There is also a link at the bottom of each page to additional website compiled by Literacy Mid-South. Please notify your school site coordinator if you find additional website sites or resources that you believe are particularly effective.
The Tutor Training page includes links volunteers to video and PowerPoint presentations helpful in training new volunteer tutors. The Introduction to Volunteering is important for all volunteers to view to understand the dos and don’ts of volunteering. Presentations on tutoring elementary and middle school math and middle school language arts are available, as well as information on preparing students for the writing exam.
The Advanced Training Topics page links you to the Literacy Mid-South Website and includes PowerPoint presentations and handouts from training sessions done by master teachers for the Advanced Tutor Training series (2011-2012) and the Advanced Training for Education Partners Series (2012-2013). Listings include Developing Effective Tutor/Student Relationships, Dealing with Districted, Distruptive Behavior, The ABCs of Testing - Test Taking Strategies, Preparing for TCAP Language Arts, Preparing for TCAP Math, and many other topics.
